I have this calculation of production time as below.

Time Start     Time End    Total Time (Min)
8.00           17.00        =(17-8)*60
= 540

Time Start     Time End    Total Time (Min)
20.00          8.00         =(8-20)*60
= (720)
[/pre]
*The result for this formula will be (720) min.

I need the result to be in positive sign.


Can any sifus suggest the formula for this calculation?

Easiest way would be multiply the calculation by -1


=((8-20)*60)*-1


The number will not be anymore negative.


But there could be some other ways as well.

ABS() to get numbers always positive:

[pre]=ABS((8-20)*60))
=ABS((17-8)*60))
[/pre]

result will be positive.

If I have a elapsed time as below :


Start End Different

20:00pm 3:00am 7 hours


If I use formula as : =ABS((3:00-20:00)*24))

It will show 17 hours instead of 7 hours.


As I need to fix the calculation from End time to Start time.

Any formula suggestion for this kind of calculation?


Please help.

How about this:

=(EndTime+(EndTime<StartTime)-StartTime)*24

In XL format, this would be:

=(B2+(B2<A2)-A2)*24


The logic check in the middle will add 1 (day) to the calculation if we need to. This should also take care of the earlier problem with negative/postive numbers.
