Dynamic charting of events along distance line

John Ritchie

New Member
Hi,

I have a set of data which relates to events which happened along a run line. I am trying to plot these events at the location they occurred on the run line.

The run line itself will be 394km, I'll be adding scrolling to the chart at some point, but I have not been able to get the data setup correctly to plot it. I'm not even sure what chart type is best suited.

Basically I have a start KP and end KP, these events would need to be plotted at the correct location on the run line:

Start KP - 1.2km
End KP - 23km

Plotted at 1.2km to 23km

Any help would be much appreciated,

John

See attached file:

Adding scrolling on the X Axis isn't a big issue if required

Hi John ,

Some of the end KP values are less than the corresponding start KP values ; how would these be handled ?

Narayan

I calculated the start using Min() and then the revised end for each case

Thanks guys,

Narayan, the high to low KP's indicate direction of travel, I have been using ABS() to return a positive result.

Hui, I had a play with the Gantt style chart, but had decided on a timeline style trying to plot along single lines to try and limit the amount of scrolling required.
Also, should have mentioned, the only events that are required to be viewed are the activities in column C of which there are 20 variants with the most important being:
Pre-trench survey
1st pass trenching
1st pass survey

I've attached the current version, developped by someone circa 1980 by the looks of it to show what I am trying to accomplish.

Thanks for your help,

John

How about this

The three activities are user selectable

Hui,

You are awesome! This is exactly what I've been trying to do.

How would I then go about adding a scroll bar so that only 10 records are viewable at a time? Due to the fact the table is filtered, I can't seem to get it to show me only the viewed items when referencing the source data?

Thanks again,

John

Ok
This you should like:

It displays 20 Records but you can change that in the No. of Records cell

You can scroll using the Control at the top
You can select up to 3 measures to be charted in the yellow cells

Refer attached file:
