Dropdown list with check and x mark as entries

Hi,

I have this worksheet wherein I need to indicate which items are required by area.
However, I was asked to add a dropdown list with the check mark and x mark as entries but, I can't seem to use the data validation option.
I know that there's a macro needed to generate this kind of result. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with macro or programming per se.
Would very much appreciate the assistance/help any of you can extend to me.
Thank you very much.
By the way, I've attached the file I'm working on for information.
Thank you again.

Hi:

Is this what you are looking for? I have change the font to Wingdings and did a normal data validation.

Thanks

Hi Nebu! I've tried this but, problem is, some people do not know which one is a check mark and which one is an x mark, by just looking at the dropdown list.
Is there a way to put the check and x mark instead?
Thanks!

See, if this helps. Instead of Wingdings, I just used Square Root symbol and small x.

Thanks
