Distribute Data Over Fixed Curves

Dear all, I can't find the right formula or ideas on how to distribute a number into several period based on curve that are set to it, e.g.

I estimate that manhours for a project is 200,000. The project duration should take on 8 months. Thus, if I use Bell Curve, the distribution of the manhours by monthly is:

Months Value

1 9,231

2 19,245

3 31,405

4 40,118

5 40,118

6 31,405

7 19,245

8 9,231

The cumulative of this data will give you a Bell Curve. This function is based on NORMDIST..Is there any example on the Trapezoidal Curve, Front Loaded Curve etc as in most project planning software?

Firstly, Welcome to the Chandoo.org Forums

I've never heard of either rule, but thats ok,

So I've taken the liberty to guess at there shapes

There is no native function to do them in excel

You could develop a UDF to do this for you or a simple few cells can also do the trick

You can adjust as required
