Hello Chandoo, i have been following your site and ur excel tips, it's been great to learn new things in Excel and been thrilled in adapting few of them in our day to day work. I have recently updgraded Excel 2010. I have made a point of using most of your excel tips from now and this is my first excel question as below.

What's the difference in saving a worksheet in .xlsb format?
I have observed the file size has been reduced when compared to saving the file in .xlsx format.
Are there any other advantages in saving the file in .xlsb format?

Firstly, Welcome to the Chandoo.org Forums

*.xlsb is an Excel Binary file type
It can contain either macros or plain excel data
These files are compressed and as such are smaller and they should open and close faster than equivalent *.xlsx or *.xlsm file types

There are no other advantages or disadvantages to using them
