diagram on dashboard

Hi Chandoo experts:

I was wondering if I can bug you regarding my detroit dashboard. On the batting dash tab, I inserted a diagram of comerica park where the tigers play. What I would like to do is whenever you choose a player from the slicer i would like to see where that player is played and how many games he started there. (Example if I choose Alex Aliva I would like to see his name come up by the catchers position and the amount of games he played there.) I made a table called positions that should account for that. Not sure if you can do it that way. Also can you get rid of that blank slicer? Thanks for your help on this, Joe from Michigan.

I would add the diagram as the background of an X-Y Scatter chart
using a nominal x=0-10 and y=0-10 grid
The chart will have a single series of 1 point
The point will have a marker and a legend applied
Then delete all the axis and grid lines from the chart

Then as the player is selected
setup a few cells where you retrieve the x & y positions and the pitchers name

You will need to add nominal X and Y positions for each player in a lookup table somewhere

See attached file:

You will need to edit the X & Y Positions in the Table8 on the Positions Worksheet

Hi Hui,

Thanks for pointing that out for me. That's exactly how i wanted it to look like.
I am just at awe at your expertise on excel.

Hui,

One more thing. I noticed that some of the players aren't coming up on their respective positions. How do I read the x y layout? For example Miguel Cabera should be closer to the third base area. How can I adjust that?

It is a regular 0 - 10 grid with 0,0 at the lower left and 10,10 at the upper right
As I have no idea about baseball positions you'll have to do the positions yourself

I would open a second window
Then position the two windows next to each other
Set the worksheets so one is the picture and 1 is the data
then adjust the data name by name

Hey, I figured it out and plotted all the x/y according to the postions. Except when I hit the player from the slicer it's not moving the players name to the right position. All of them are at the last position where I entered in the x/y plot.

Please post the file
Please indicate the issue doing is clear for a person who doesn't know baseball

I've plotted the players position on the (positions tab) where you told me to. So if you click the players names from the slicer it stays the same. Does it have to do something with the formula in S-7? I can change the players positions in q-7 and r-7. I appreciate your help.

On the Batting dash worksheet, Change

Q7: =INDEX(Table8[X],MATCH($B3,Table8[Player],0))
R7: =INDEX(Table8[Y],MATCH($B3,Table8[Player],0))

Here is the final copy. Choose a player from the slicer and notice how it changes positions. J.D Martinez and Nick Castellanos however has NA's. Not sure why. But for the most part it's working. Appreciate you taking your time to figure that out for me.

The spelling of the various names is inconsistant between the slicers and the table on the players list
Hence the N/A errors
