Create simple bubble map of 50 related pieces of data for K-12 teachers

Hi all,

I need to create a cool visual for K-12 teachers. The data has 50 main pieces. The map will show how these 50 pieces interrelate. This needs to be clear, simple, and not take up a ton of space.

For illustration--data piece #1 is related to #3,7,21,50; data piece #2 is related to #3,6; data piece #3 is related to #15, 22, 39.

I imagine it in bubbles but I'm not tied to that. Any tips on how to create this? What should my Excel spreadsheet look like? Many thanks.

Firstly, Welcome to the Chandoo.org Forums

Can you post your data so we can have a look and think about it.

Hi again, I've uploaded the spreadsheet to Google Docs, here's the link:

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0Bx6Jocz3REkOZTU1ZmRkNjgtMmIwNS00MTI4LWIyZmYtYjlkOGE2MTBlODI3&hl=en_US

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ah6Jocz3REkOdDlnWTgtQXBBbDlnalRQbEZPTEpYZ2c&hl=en_US

You'll also find there my first attempt at creating a visual graph showing how these 49 techniques are interrelated. I'd love some advice on how to automate creating this graphic. I also welcome any tips on how to make it look good without taking up a ton of space! Thanks!

Hi Hui, I had a chance to put more work into the spreadsheet after my last upload. You can find a more finalized (though not "pretty") version here:

There would potentially be about 300 bubbles if I wanted to show each relationship separately. This needs to be a clear graph so I'm hesitant to link the elements with many arrows. Also, the graphic can't really be too large as it will appear in print. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Kindly,

Kate
