Count List

In column A i have 200 names of countries but some are repeated....Here r 2 Qs.

1. How do i count how many countries are there.???? (avoiding the repetition)....&

2. Is there a formula to give a "listing" of the name of those countries.

Hi James,


For your 1 question, if you are using excel 2007, use "Remove duplicates".

It will give you country names without repetition.


Or use advanced filter to get unqiue list, shortcut is Alt D F A.


For the 2 question, try using validation list for "listing".

Shorcut is Alt D L.

Or simply create a pivot table out of your data, will find unique list as well as count.

Here's my solution...


Data->filter ->advanced filter-> select range , click on copy to another range, unique values only, and click on OK.
