Consolidating KPIs

Please help me out. i face a difficult task of consolidating multiple KPis into one index/measure. The problem is allocating them weight, is there a way of doing this in excell or a formula that i can use to consolidate these measures into one measure.

i work in a Telecommunications company and the KPis i am tracking are call setup failure rate (CSFR), call drop rate (CDR), Congestion (CONG) just to mention ones of interest. I track these on a weekly basis and also on a monthly basis, i want o consolidate these into 1 performance measure. HELP

Hi ,

How will Excel help in this matter ? The 3 measures you mention are all measures of quality ; only you or anyone familiar with the industry can say how one consolidated measure can accurately reflect the 3 individual measures.

Do you have the baseline or norm for each of the 3 measures ? Suppose we assume the following norms , which I have seen using Google :

CSFR : 4 %
CDR : <= 2 %
CONG : <= 2 %

How would an Excel professional be able to say whether values for the above of 6 % , 1.5 % and 1.5 % are better or worse than values of 4.5 % , 2 % and 0.5 % ?

Only an industry professional can say what weightages should be assigned to abnormal values for each of the 3 measures.

You might do better posting this question in a telecom forum.

Perhaps "consolidating" is not the best word.

As Narayan indicates, we have to know the goal (or standard) for each KPI.
You also need to know the weight that end user of the information wishes to assign to each KPI.
What is most important to them?
(Do a search on SixSigma Critical to Quality (CTQ) for more information).

Once you have these pieces of information, then you can build a single measure and compare actual to goal.
You would compare your KPI's to their standard and determine a variance and a standard deviation of those variances over time.

The overall goal would be to reduce the standard deviation over time or to reach a certain measure and then do a step change down to a new goal.
