combining data from two fields into one cell

I have a long column of data that is a list of apartment numbers, i.e 101, 201,202, etc. and another column that is either A, B, C, or D (indicates which bedroom in the partment). I know how to split data from one column into two however I can't seem to figure out how to add my bedroom letter to the apt number so that I end up with 101A, 101B, etc. Not all apt numbers have the same number of bedrooms so I can't just simply insert the same bedroom letters for each one.

Hi ,

If you say that not all apartments will have the same number of bedrooms , how do you decide ?

How will you decide that apartment number 101 is to have 3 bedrooms , while apartment 201 will have only 2 ? And for all apartments which have 3 bedrooms , will it be A , B and C ? Or can it be A , C , D or A , B , D or any other combination ?

If you can give the rule for this , then it will be easy to arrive at a formula for concatenation.

they are already in a spreadsheet that list each apt number and the bedroom next to it, see below for example

Col A Col B

101 A

101 B

102 A

102 B

102 C

When we do the original set up we combine them from the start as we will pull the data off of the bldg plans. When we get the management of an existing property they are frequently like this one that has them split.

Does this help?

Thank you so much for your help.

WOW, feel like a dummy:) Thank you so much. I have all of Chandoo's classes on video and now need to sit down and go through all of them. I did some but got busy. Also very excited about the new Vitamin XL.
