Charting by Two Variables

Hi All

I was hoping someone could help me with constructing an appealing and informative way of charting Projects by 2 variables: Priority and Cost. Some sample data is contained below:

ProjectPriority Cost ($,000)
Project A 15.08% $110
Project B 13.57% $560
Project C 13.57%$3,500
Project D 11.06% $220
Project E 9.80%$2,655
Project F 8.79% $387
Project G 7.29% $48
Project H 7.29% $22
Project I 5.53% $71
Project J 4.02% $160
Project K 4.02% $36
Many thanks in advance

Firstly, Welcome to the Chandoo.org Forums

Why not a combination chart with two axis, one for Priority the second for cost
something like this:

Hi ,

I was thinking of a bubble chart , but it's too much trouble !

If you can wait for a couple of days , I can prepare it.

Narayan

Thanks Hui for the suggestion. Visually I was trying to come up with something along the lines of quadrants, so that the top right area had high value / high priority (and the bottom left had low/low), if you know what I mean.
I'm in no rush Narayan - appreciate any suggestions. (The bubble I was experimenting with seemed to represent one of the variables twice - that is, on an axis and also size, so I wasn't happy with my efforts).
cheers

Hi ,

I tried a bubble chart with the cost also representing the bubble size ; wouldn't this be a correct representation ?

I would like to try VBA to add data labels , and also conditionally format the bubbles based on either their priority or their cost ; what you suggest viz. a four quadrant map will also be good ; have you tried it ? Or do you want me to try it ?

Lastly , is your name really Echidna ?

Hi Narayan, I'd be interested in your representation via a four quadrant map if it was no trouble. I'm interested to see the nature of the object that "sits" in each quadrant, if you get what I mean.

Hi Narayan

Thanks for the link! I'll step through it and yell out if I get stuck if that's okay.

Hi Narayan

Just one other query regarding the end result of the link: is it possible to get the Project Name in or near each bubble, rather than as part of a legend?

cheers
Alan

Hi Narayan
I guess it could, but the strong preference would be to have it sitting near the bubble rather than, say, along the x axis.
cheers
