Chart Data Labels

Hi,

I have downloaded the "using-shapes-in-charts" workbook from changoo.org and I am a new user of Excel 2010.

My questions are about the chart on the "Steps to create" worksheet. 1)I cannot figure out how to enter the Data Labels "Sales" and "Cost" so that they only occur in the first bar. 2)And I cannot figure out why this chart does not display a legend.

Thanks.

Hi ,

I do not have Excel 2010 , so I am not sure if what I have posted will be of help. Try it out and see.

When you first click on the Data Labels on any chart , all the Data Labels are selected.

Now if you again click on any particular Data Label , that Data Label alone will be selected.

Now , if you click within that selected Data Label , you enter EDIT mode , where you can enter the text Sales , Costs or anything else.

The Legend display can be turned ON or OFF by clicking on the chart , clicking on Layout in the Chart Tools menu bar , and then clicking on Legend ; you will see all the options available there.

Thank you to Narayank and SirJB. Took me a few tries before I could get to the Edit mode on the Data Labels, but, once there, worked like a charm. Major improvement in charts from Excel 2000 to 2010. Once again thanks for the help.
