Can you link a textbox to move with a line graph on a chart?

Hi Chandoo,

I've been using the 'excel'lent :) info on your site to adapt a chart someone else designed. The chart shows pledged contributions in a campaign broken out into existing pledges, existing growth, new pledges and remaining pledges in a stacked chart configuration.

I used your 'How to cook up a delicious dynamic chart ...' to make the chart/legend dynamic. It worked great!

The original designer had also manually added a line/bar as static marker at the top of the chart to denote the pledge total (goal) for the current campaign.

Using 'Create a combination chart ...', I figured out how to change the static line that had to be manually moved, into a line graph that changed with the data. Yeah!!

I have one last problem to conquer but I'm not having any luck figuring out how to do it so I came to the guru for assistance ... The (previously static) line that marks the campaign goal also has a textbox as a kind of separate legend next to it which denotes the goal $$ amount and the year. I figured out how to have the text in the textbox adjust itself from year to year dynamically but I have to manually move the textbox when the line moves up or down. Is there any way to link the textbox to the line so that it moves up or down with the line graph?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Sandy

I would not use a Text Box, but instead add a new series as a line chart to the chart

Plot the series on the 2nd Y axis so it isn't added to the cummulative values of the chart

Select the data point you want and add a Label to it

The label will then be set to have your text from a cell somewhere

The 2 axis must have the same scale

Hide the line by making it have no color

Adjust the labels position by using a Y Value which is linked to the sum of the values for the chart

Thanks, Hui, I got it to work!

I didn't realize that you could set just

one data point on a line and that the

data point could be moved. Works

like a charm now.

Thanks again!!
