Dear Ninjas,

I have a question, what formula can I use to calculate the following

Number of Rooms in a hotel : 181
Occupied for the night : 75
Occupancy % : 41.43%

However if I only have the occupancy and total number of rooms of the hotel as my information how do I calculate, how many rooms were occupied for the night and rounding it to a full number.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Kind regards

Arjun

Firstly, Welcome to the Chandoo.org Forums

Your formula is

Occupancy = Occupied Rooms / Total Rooms

so if you know Occupancy the formula becomes

Occupied Rooms = Total Rooms x Occupancy

Occupied Rooms = 175 * 41.43%
Occupied Rooms = 74.98

In Excel it will be =Round(175 * A1)
where A1 has the value of Occupancy eg: 0.4143 or 41.43%

This can be automated using my formula above
Goal seek doesn’t allow automation and is way overkill and not required for this solution
