Bar Chart Axis Labels

Hi Chandoo,

Would like to create a column chart that would display the formats given in the sample as attached. My main concern here is to display the x axis labels which are the year and then the labels of the column chart like the "Overall Performance". What I want is to automatically display it on the chart instead of inserting text box and put the year and the labels.

Hope you can help me. thanks.

Jud

Firstly, Welcome to the Chandoo.org forums

The use of Text Boxes is a great tool to add text to charts and dashboards
But instead of adding text, add a reference to a cell
The cell can then contain a formula to setup the text as you please

To add a formula to a text box
Add a text box
select the text box and then click in the Formula Bar
type a link to a cell =Sheet1!$A$1
In A1 put your text or a formula to develop the text
=if(Profit<0,"We're Losing Money","We're Making Money")

Hi Hui,

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. It was really a nice idea. But..
Is there no way we can do it directly on the chart's data? to capture both the x axis label (2013, 2014) and other labels like "Overall Performance" and etc with the formats required without inserting text box.

By the way, I am referring to the column chart with title "Performance by Segment".

Thanks,
Jud

If you select the chart and then Insert text Box, the Text Box is now inside the chart, effectively part of the chart. Try and drag it out of the chart and you'll see you can't

Try and drag the Overall Satisfaction label out of the chart attached.

HI, my name is Rosa Campos and I'm new to the forum. I use excel but not a lot but I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I have a chart with Hours on the Y axis and names at the bottom. I would like to add Q1,Q2,Q3 etc. to the bottom. it doesn't let me do that there's no space at the bottom of the chart, but when I print it I can see white space at the bottom. Also when I insert a text box, the text box disappears on me. thanks
