Another option you can try is SUBTOTAL through outline.
1. Select Range for which you need SUBTOTAL (AVERAGE)

2. Choose Data >> Outline >> Subtotal

4. Output will appear as below. Excel will insert required rows. Bold ones in the snapshot below.
