Ambiguous instructions/Questions in Excel

I am a tutor at a College in Johannesburg. My level 3 students (Advanced)came across the following question/ instruction from their external examination.

"Create a 3D bar (column) chart based on the years 2008 and 2009 only for each APPLIANCE"

I find the use of "bar" & "(column)" in the same line ambiguous and confusing. Which chart (type) is the examiner interested in? Is it the Bar or the Column Chart, Please help.

As per my view column chart is most powerful coz u can give a look of panel chart with it. Pannel chart gives a first impression of worksheet author.

Rest all depends upon exmnr inrts.

I'm used to seeing vertical or horizontal bar charts referred to generically as "bar" charts. A column chart is a vertical bar. Asking for a "bar (column) chart" would give you the column orientation of a bar chart.

I'd more object to using the 3D aspect. Those things always seem like a waste of ink to me.
