Adding months to a date [SOLVED]

I have just found this forum and wonder if anyone can help me with this problem.


I have a date eg 12/9/2009. I need to add a number of months to this date eg 24 or 48 or 36 and show the answer as Sep-11.

assuming the date is in cell A1

=+DATE(YEAR(A1),MONTH(A1)+48,DAY(A1))

and to change the date format

right click on the cell and select Format Cells

In the Format Cells dialogue select the Number Tab and Custom in the Category box

in the Type box put mmm-dd
