add any text to Custom number format?

hello all

i read the following at microsoft's office site (refering to custom number formats); quoting:

"Include an (@) character in the section where you want to display any text that you type in the cell"

does this mean the @ character can be written in the positive or negative section of a custom format string to avoid specifying exact text characters?

any guidance will be appreciated

thnx

If you use a @ in the positive, negative or zero sections of a number, numbers that fall into that section wont be displayed

Try it out

To stop people entering particular format of text you need to use Data Validation

Type Data Validation into the Google search pane at top of the page
