A formula that skips a column in references

What's the optimal way to get a formula to skip a column in its references?

For example in the uploaded file - a5=a2 but b5=c2, and c5=e2 and so on ....

Am I posing the question properly? I can't seem to find a solution out there, so I have to turn to Chandoo's Ninjas

=INDIRECT(ADDRESS(2,((COLUMNS($A2:A2)-1)*2)+1))
