Index and Match formula with multiple matches

Never mind - have discovered my own solution! Having stumbled across the new formulas that Excel365 offers this morning, I used SORTBY to arrange the data as I wanted it. I then used ordinary reference formulas in my report, which draw information from that sorted list as needed.

Index and Match formula with multiple matches

Hi. In the attached workbook, I have three columns of numbers. I am looking for a formula please that will arrange column B in descending order, but always moving the accompanying row value in column C as well when it resorts the order. Where two successive values in column B are the same...

Need help with a formula please

My bad, p45cal. Apologies, and thanks so much to you too for being willing to help me out! Very much obliged to you both!

Need help with a formula please

It would appear as if you have nailed it! Thank you so much - that is awesome!!

Need help with a formula please

Hi. Thank you for the response! No, unfortunately this still isn't working correctly - it indicates "Debut" for every player in every match.

Need help with a formula please

Hi. I am struggling to create a formula that will track the first occurrence of a given name, but always in conjunction with a further cell value, and would really appreciate someone devising a formula-based solution that I have been unable to find. Please see the attached spreadsheet. I have...

Finding second (and subsequent) occurrences of matches

Hi Bosco. Apologies for not thanking you yet for your latest formula update, but I've been playing around with it in the interim and have noticed that it's not yet performing 100% accurately. For the most part it's pretty darn good, but for some reason there seems to be exceptions slipping...

Finding second (and subsequent) occurrences of matches

Thanks. I was worried that ten lines might not be enough data to produce the required results, so the attached file is somewhat larger (but not nearly as big as the original one posted). Thanks for your time!

Finding second (and subsequent) occurrences of matches

Sorry to be a pain, but there appears to be an additional complication. In my actual database, there are seven other columns between the player name (column A in the uploaded sample) and the first column for holding the team name (column B here). As a result, the last bit of your formula...

That looks absolutely magic! Thank you so much!

Finding second (and subsequent) occurrences of matches

Thank you very much, Bosco. Much appreciated! At the risk of sounding greedy though, is there a way to alter the returns so that they don't list the team played for in a player's every appearance, but rather just list of all the different teams represented in each player's range of appearances...

Finding second (and subsequent) occurrences of matches

Hi. Please see the attached sample from a much larger Excel database that I am running. I need to extract all of the teams that each player has appeared for (as compiled from the Appearances tab), and list them in columns B - G on the Summary tab. I can determine the first occurrence easily...

Formula to sum in one column only for those rows with matching data in another column

Hi Ali. Ended up having a rather busy weekend, to the extent that I didn't touch my laptop at all. I therefore have only now tried out your formula suggestion. I'm very happy to announce that it (once again) worked perfectly for me. I wish I could hire you to create my entire spreadsheet for...

Formula to sum in one column only for those rows with matching data in another column

My Excel saviour returns!! I'm on my way home now, but in great faith will make sure to check that out when I get there. Thank you!

Formula to sum in one column only for those rows with matching data in another column

Thanks, but I think that'd wreak havoc across the rest of the spreadsheet. Slightly disappointing, but not that serious - I'd rather have double reporting that I can manually edit than no reporting at all. Appreciate your efforts very much.

Formula to sum in one column only for those rows with matching data in another column

Sorry, just one slight tweak still needed actually, please. As the same name often appears twice for the same Column C event, the combined value of that person's Column D scores appears next to each instance of that person's name when I copy the formula down, such that each total is reported on...

Formula to sum in one column only for those rows with matching data in another column

That is all kinds of awesome, thank you 945cal! I have added that as a helper column to my spreadsheet, and it works beautifully! I will now use it by referencing that helper column in the worksheet where I want the formula summary to be for reporting purposes. Gotta love this forum!!

Formula to sum in one column only for those rows with matching data in another column

Okay, thanks. I can't get the workbook small enough to upload, so I've included a screenshot instead. Column C has an identifying number that repeats over multiple rows, effectively making it a category for each of the numerous persons and their results (given that in many cases, the same...

Formula to sum in one column only for those rows with matching data in another column

Hi all. I am looking for the correct function to use that will add the values present in a number of rows in the same column, but only if those rows share the same value in another column. For example, Column A has a number of values, each of which repeat down several rows, while Column B has...

Formula to differentiate between multiple similar results

Wow Ali, it almost seems like you're on permanent duty on this forum! Definitely most beneficial for me though - your last formula is 100% perfect for my needs, and a thing of some beauty to behold in action. How do I give you much-deserved trophy points? :):)

Formula to differentiate between multiple similar results

Hi Ali. Thanks so much! That's an awesome set of formulas and comes very close to achieving what I need, but isn't quite 100% compatible unfortunately. I should've mentioned that although the vast majority of my scores are integers, there are a number that have one decimal place too. As a...

Formula to differentiate between multiple similar results

Actually, I see there is still an issue. I've added a fixed incremental value (+0.05) in my formula to each score as from the second occurrence onwards. That works when there are two identical values, but I am still getting duplicate results returned when there are three or more identical...

Formula to differentiate between multiple similar results

Okay. It's taken me quite a bit of turning this way and that in trying to work this out, but it looks like I have it now: A help column with a COUNTIF function wrapped in an IF function seems to have done the job. Thanks very much!

Formula to differentiate between multiple similar results

Thanks. However, I'd rather not mess with the underlying source workbook, as that would introduce other complications. I also already have an incremental formula system in there for another purpose, so including another on top of that would probably mess that up. Any straight formula approach...

Formula to differentiate between multiple similar results

Hi all. I need help creating a formula please, which will not get hung up only on the first instance of a number if there are multiple instances of that same number. I have a list of names in column A and a list of scores in column B, and am trying to get a formula to list the scores from...
