Excel 2010 / 2013 conflict with embedded spreadsheets?

The ideas seem to have dried up! Not to worry - just a final postscript from my part: I opened the Word doc in another installation of Office 2013, and was able to edit the embedded Excel spreadsheets perfectly once more. Seems as though a doc created in 2013 doesn't always retain full...

Excel 2010 / 2013 conflict with embedded spreadsheets?

Thanks. However, the problem with that approach is that there is no way to get the data into Excel to edit. These are not saved Excel spreadsheets that are then embedded into Word, but rather tables of data that have been drawn up in Excel and then pasted into Word for reporting purposes. As...

Excel 2010 / 2013 conflict with embedded spreadsheets?

Update: When I now repeated the above tactic of recreating one of the embedded spreadsheets in Excel 2010 and then using it to replace the non-functioning original, the second new spreadsheet displayed the error message "The server application, source file, or item cannot be found. Make sure...

Excel 2010 / 2013 conflict with embedded spreadsheets?

Hi. Need some advice please. I have a Word document that contains numerous embedded Excel spreadsheets. When I try to edit the content of these embedded spreadsheets, I get the error message "The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is either not installed on your...

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Hi Somendra. I am extremely happy to announce that your COUNTIF solution seems to be the answer to my issue of reducing the formula sizes by cutting down on the Season components. I have been able to adapt and apply it to my setup, and it seems to be working a treat - I can now add additional...

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Okay, thanks. Then I'm not going to make progress with Naranyan's solution (haven't tried yours yet). I've looked up Excel help on TRANSPOSE, and besides converting a vertical cell range to a horizontal one, it also requires that the array range has the same number of columns as the source...

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Out of curiosity though: Am I correct in stating that...

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Thanks Somendra. Will give your approach a go as well! Both your and Naran's formulas will take some mental gymnastics on my part in seeing how I can adapt them, but they both seem much more elegant than my ham-fisted approach and are certainly shorter - which is the chief purpose of my post...

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Hi. Thanks, that is more or less what I'm looking for - a shortened formula that searches through a table and finds entries that match specified criteria. I'm not familiar with TRANSPOSE, but will give converting your formula into what I need for my purposes a shot!

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Actually, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so I've attached a screenshot of how the full setup looks in practice. The columns of data next to each player's name are mostly all SUMPRODUCT formulas drawing different things from underlying tables on other worksheets. The only...

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Why does that pink face appear?! It should read G1 : P2.

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

I knew this was going to get complicated to explain! Essentially the SUMPRODUCT formula (actually a whole bunch of slightly different ones) is in another cell. It would then consider the competition name selected in B1, the season(s) applicable in G1:P2, and a few other things as well. It...

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Will the attached spreadsheet help? Essentially cell B1 is one of the selection criteria that the SUMPRODUCT formula must take into account (I'd like to add more now), and cells $G$1:$P$2 are another set of user manually-entered criteria that must be taken into account. Any of those season...

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Thanks, but not sure how practical that is? It draws on data from several different worksheets, so putting something together for uploading that will be functional could be challenging!

Range of cells for use in SUMPRODUCT formula

Hi. I have a current SUMPRODUCT formula in a spreadsheet that is working adequately, but due to also being nested in a series of IF formulas, it is cumbersome and not very flexible. I now wish to amend it to incorporate new selection criteria, but have run into issues with the number of...

    Creating an Excel timesheet

Yes, that is pretty much what I had in mind, thanks! Provides me with a great alternative to a cumulative balance in minutes. Appreciate it!

    Creating an Excel timesheet

It's fine thanks - I've already added all kinds of worksheet protection, etc. that I'd then have to remove again if I posted it. I'm happy to stay with a cumulative balance in minutes, as everything else works the way I want it to.

    Creating an Excel timesheet

Thanks guys! I am rather hesitant to switch to the 1904 system as I will be sending my spreadsheet to my boss each month, so I'll go with iferror's solution of quoting the balance in terms of minutes rather than hours until an expert does come up with another solution. Appreciate the response!

    Creating an Excel timesheet

EDIT: In short, therefore, I need to know how to make Excel recognise and work with a negative number while still using it in an hh:mm format. Thanks!

    Creating an Excel timesheet

Hi. I am struggling to create a timesheet with formulas in Excel that will keep a running debit / credit time balance for myself. I am using the TIME function to factor my 45-minute Lunch hour into the the end time less the start time calculation, in order to determine the total number of...

    Power Pivot issue?

You know what, never mind! It's official - my PowerPivot add-in for Excel 2010 is an absolute, unmitigated and unashamedly unambiguous DISASTER!! I have uninstalled it again (for a second time), and this time it will forever after stay uninstalled! Accepting workarounds like that mentioned...

    Power Pivot issue?

Just a thought that's come to me: The Paste Special command that I use in Word 2010 to embed an editable Excel spreadsheet only offers the option of pasting it as an Excel 2003 worksheet. Could it therefore be that PowerPivot is incompatible with that version of Excel, and that is causing the...

    Power Pivot issue?

Any idea what settings I should check? I just reinstalled PowerPivot again and got exactly the same problem again immediately - an error message stating "Microsoft Word can't start the application required to open this object. An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning...

    Power Pivot issue?

Hi. I downloaded and installed the Power Pivot add-in for Excel 2010, but thereafter I couldn't seem to embed editable Excel spreadsheets into Word documents anymore (which is a very important functionality to me). Is this a known Power Pivot issue, or did I do something wrong? Thanks.
