What is the easiest way to do calculations in a word document with excel as a link?

I am trying to complete a word legal form that has calculations included.
I can add numbers but can't subtract or add between different tables.
What is the easiest way to link excel and the word documents together?
 
This link will show you various methods (I am not into rewriting the book;) ) but you can totally ignore the first method, copy paste, it does not auto update.

If I have to link word and excel I use the paste link function provided by Word. Copy your Excel table, Open Word - On the Home tab - click the Paste drop down arrow. Paste Special

See the link attached.

As the data in your Excel sheet changes the word document changes in line with the changes.
