Hi from Venkatesh

Dear Chandoo,
I have the following details on excel worksheet
Column A has Product A (only in the first row)
Column B has 4 batch numbers that belong to Product A one below the other-1st just against product A
Column C has stock balances for each of these batches
my question is I want Product A repeated on each row alongside the batch number.
Likewise for Product B, C and so on. I keep a blank row in between 2 products
This can be don by copy and paste but it is time consuming. Any innovative method you have in store?

Your post says nothing about your problem “Hi from Venkatesh” as a title gives no idea of your problem, “Help”is why this board is here, if you give a descriptive tile then you stand more chance of getting the right help. Members have different skills in Excel and may only visit certain sections of the forum, titles that just say “Hi from Venkatesh” may not attract the right help. Members have busy lives to live, they have jobs to go to, families to take care of and a life outside of Chandoo world and do not spend all their time trawling through the posts.

If you take a moment to think of the problem your title would convey the help needed and the question you ask will contain more information for the members.

Hi, venkatesh!

As a new user you might want (I'd say should and must) read this:
http://chandoo.org/forum/forums/new-users-please-start-here.14/

And regarding your issue, next time title your topic properly as indicated in the posted link since the actual is very polite and friendly but tells nothing about your problem.

Consider uploading a sample file (including manual examples of desired output if applicable), it'd be very useful for those who read this and might be able to help you. Thank you.

Regards!

Hi, my friend!
Good afternoon.
Just a few seconds... surely you have a wiiider internet connection... 50Mbps at least...
Regards!

I am sure there is a better solution...
In A1 I put Product A
In A4 I put Product B

In B1,B2,B3 I put a number for Batch of A
In B4,B5,B6 I put a number for Batch of B

What I did is:
In C1 =A1
In C2 =IF(A2="";C1;A2) and drag this formula down

If there is a empty row in between
D1 and D2 done manually
D3: =IF(B3="";"";IF(A3="";IF(A2="";C1;A2);A3)) and drag down this formula

Hi, b(ut)ob(ut)hc!
So I was right... Oh, the 1st world!... I can't fight with my 6Mb Cablevision Fibertel service... I surrender.

Hi Venkatesh ,

There is a standard procedure for this , which you can get by searching this forum , since this has been asked and answered several times.

1. Select the entire data range , say A2:C33

2. Press F5 or CTRL G to open the Go To dialog box

3. Click on Special

4. Check the box labelled Blanks ; all the blank cells , including the rows which are wholly blank will be selected , and the cursor will be positioned in the upper-left blank cell

5. Press the = key , and use the up cursor key to select the cell above the blank cell where the cursor is positioned

6. Press CTRL ENTER ; all the blank cells will be populated with the values immediately above the blank cells

7. Delete / erase the unwanted data in the rows between products

Hi, Venkatesh,

I had come up with a solution which will involve a helper column.
Step 1:Select column B, right click and Insert.
Step 2: in this new column B, in cell B2 put this formula and copy down.
=IF(C2<>"",IF(A2="",B1,A2))

Remove " from your sample file before these steps.

Try this mean time some excel expert come up with another solution which will not involve helper column.

Regards!

Thanks Somendra,
The blanks now are replaced by "False". I can filter and take out false

For some reason you feel the need to include members posts in your reply’s as quoted, if you do this then your thread will become tiresome and tedious to read and put members off from reading your post and therefore limiting the help you receive.

@bobhc: I (an occasional contributor only) have found this when I press the "reply" button... which I have done exactly now to illustrate what I mean. The default is to reproduce the original message (with a fade-out, thank goodness), but @venkatesh in this case (and this is just an example) will have wished to respond to all those of you who have contributed to his thread, and in good faith.
So I suppose I am suggesting to you, as a ninja and influential in this community, to check the defaults or something?
Just trying to help.

Good day juanito

The "Reply" at the right of a post is to reply to the author of the post, the reply box at the bottom of the thread is what poster user to "reply". If you look at the forum you will see that it is only new members who tend to quote or use the right hand Reply and with a gentle nudge in the right direction they see wich way to use the forum....:)

@b(ut)ob(ut)hc
Hi, my friend @bobhc!
Good morning, almost noon. I agree with juanito, I think that it'd be cool if the "Reply" button gets replaced by "Quote" or "Reply quoting" or something alike, this will avoid all confusions specially those of new users who're not aware of the forums software behavior.
Regards!
PS: Otherwise we'd be emulating (Leroy Jetthro) Gibbs in NCIS... ask (Tony) Di Nozzo :DD

@r1c1
Hi!
What about my idea product of a flash of inspiration?
