Y.O.Y Comparison Chart - need help sorting

json

Ok, so i have data from 2012 and 2013 that I am charting various aspects for a Quality Committee that I am on. Right now I have the 2012 Top 5 and the 2013 Top 5 in the same chart... 2012 columns first, then 2013. I have them showing from most frequent to least but i'v noticed that it is really only sorting the 2012 categories most to least and just using that same order for the 2013 data (but that same order is not correct for both years!!

I know i can create a chart for 2012 and a separate oen for 2013, but is it possible to have them on the same chart for room/layout reasons and still have them sorted properly?!

**due to work restrictions, I am unable to upload any files, so my apologies as i know this would be very helpful in this type of situation. I'll try to best explain my pivottable layout as much as possbile for anyone willing to help.

Thanks everyeone!!

Hi json,

What about creating the source of the graph manually? You could then order the series as you wish.

Cheers,

Thank for your reply!

I can move/"sort" them manually, but it keeps the same order for both years. however, this isn't accurate as they do not have the same TOP 5.

i think im going to try to create them separately and fake it.... seems like the only way

Can you download a file from work?

I uploaded a file with a quick example I prepared (quick and dirty :p) to check if I understand well what you want to do.

Could you please have a look and tell me if it is correct or how it should be?

Regards,

what sorcery did you use!?!

i also have a datatable for most chats.... im thinking this may play a big role in my problem

Hi!
They're all alike, same genre, witches with strange and arcane dark and obscure powers...

@Aurelie
Hi!
I did not do it...

Hi json,

I just organized the data in the source of the chart the way I want it to be displayed in the chart. Then I selected everything and inserted a bar chart. Nothing else, excel did the rest by itself
It is simple, but you need to understand how Excel plays with the series and put them together in a chart.

The problem of tables used as sources of a chart is precisely that you do not have so much flexibility in sorting the data. That's why sometimes the fastest and simplest way is just to organize your data manually.

I would advise you to have a look at the blog of Jon Peltier for some very useful tips on fancy charts: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/ChartIndex.html
He is definitely THE chart wizard in excel.
Or even on Chandoo's website you can find plenty of nice charts and explanations on how to do them.

@SirJB7, I did not want to be insulting by saying that Jon Peltier is THE chart wizard. I'm pretty sure you know a lot of magical formulas as well :)

Cheers,
