when the two don't meet

Hi all--

Thank you for your help last week on finding sub totals from a huge list. I got

=SUMIF($I$5:$I$66,$N38,$H$5:$H$66) to work as far as giving me the times of each category, now when I try to insert a graph from this information, I just get the total time for everything in one bar labeled with the last entry from the group 18 in this case. Any thoughts

From what I know, the SUMIF function will produce a single number as the answer. It will not be giving you a series of data or array for you to plot.

Make sure that when you highlighted your information and chose to "insert graph", you had two columns with headers highlighted.

Then, experiment with changing the graph type. It may be interpreting the series as the column, not the rows. I think you can toggle which axis displays what from the "Select Data" menu.

Sounds like you just need to switch things around until it looks right...

I will be using a pivot table, I think. I just would like to figure out why the formatting is goofy using this equation. I have other equations connected to the first column of reasons and the graphs just flow naturally. I highlight the two columns, hit insert and presto -- I get a useable graph. Obviously this equation and graphing don't see eye to eye:)
