What causes excel to sit and spin

I noticed today that when I take my mouse down to the tool bar and have it over my excel files they are spinning like they are calculating. I really do not know how else to explain it

Hi Jack,

By tool bar, do you mean the start bar/application bar for the operating system, or the Status bar within XL application?

Sounds like more of a Windows question possibly...although, from what I remember, you are dealing with some larger files, so perhaps computer is always calculating (I think it's something like >65536 formula tree causes everything to be volatile). Other idea would be to restart XL/windows, see if problem persists.

Correct Luke, they are large files but this is new and does not happen on my laptop. I will do a repair on excel and see if that helps. Even when I turn off auto calculate it spins

With the file size you handle (as I know in gb's :) ) try to run your file in some other system with a good configuration and see the programs that are running in the back ground.

Regards,

Lol. That's just it Somendra, I built a desktop with solid state hard drives one to run Excel alone with 64GIGS OF RAM These are my smaller books with all open a toatal go 2 GIGS When I run them on my laptop that has 8 GIGS RAM no problem. Lol. I totally understand what tall are saying trust me as it does look like it's trying to calculate but I turned it off and it still does it. I'm sure I'm missing something.

Thanks

Has someone played a trick on you and messed up your mouse icon display? Like, changed the default "hand" symbol to be "busy symbol". Unlikely, but I might have seen it done before. ;)

I'll

I'll check. No one has access to my desktop. So if anyone did it ..... It's me lol and who knows. Lol

If you have a wireless mouse, I'd suspect low battery and/or signal interference.
Next, if the sensitivity is cracked up high enough, but be seeing movement from dust/debris being on a trackpad or mouse sensor.
Or, it's just you, and the shaking is from your excitement at almost unlocking your immense riches. :P j/k

That's it Luke, the excitement of my riches lol. I checked the sensitivity and even changed my mouse going to gret a hard wired mouse to see if that Helps. Thanks for the laugh lol
