Want Formula and Data Validation in one cell

Hi all,


I am Shweta Sutar and a working mother


I have been searching for a solution since ages to this problem. I have a cell which needs to be populated with a list only if a Date cell is blank and if it has a date then it should just populate status as "Joined". e.g. I have a sheet with 2 columns.


1.Status of Recruitments - this needs to be populated with validation or direct value

2.Date of joining - date


So, I want that if the date of joining is blank then I should get a list with values "Active,Deffered Joining,To confirm,Offer rejected" and if a person has joined and after updating date in date of joining column, the status of recruitment should automatically be populated with word "Joined".


I tried this by putting various formulae in data validation and otherwise but dint work. Can somebody help me? and I do not wish to use VBA for this thing. basically I am trying to help my internal client with their master data sheet which has 100K records.
