Unable to apply filters in excel 2003

Hi,


I have a specific file which has multiple sheets, and data in each sheet is linked to the other / master sheet through vlookup (basically update master, all other sheets get updated).


In this unprotected file, I am not able to apply auto filter (data->filter->auto filter). The menu itself gets disabled.


Wheres if I open a new excel, I am able to apply data filter. If I copy data from any of the previous files sheets into the new workbook, data filter gets disabled. I am not able to add data validation also (data->validation).


Can you suggest me what could be the issue?

That is a bit strange. Do you see any merged cells or is your data unstructured (ie not in a table fashion)
