UDF in a Pivot Table Calculated field

In responding to a recent query on here, I created a UDF to calculate tiered commission rates - well in fact, I recycled one I created a few years ago to calculate investment fees.

I tried to create a Calculated Field in the Pivot Table to use the UDF, and wasn't successful - can theses things be used in a Calculated Field? I'd like to be able to solve it as it makes the solution that much more practical.

As usual any insight greatly appreciated.

Hi ,

A pivot table calculated field can make use of a very limited set of Excel native functions ; it cannot make use of UDFs.

You can use the UDF in a field in the source data , and then see if you can make use of this column in the pivot table.

Thanks Narayan! My daughter and I looked at it last evening, but we couldn't find anything definitively stating that, however, it was not working so we figured that might be the case.

In this particular case, I could only make it work in the Source data by using PowerPivot and DAX, I believe.
