"Too many different cell formats."

I have a large excel file that holds financial data. Each tab is formatted differently as they are all used to compile various types of things. I went to merge cells and received an error saying "Too many different cell formats." Is there a workaround for this?

That's one of your problems. Don't merge cells. Believe me, is causing WAY more problems than it's worth. If you want to align text, select the cells, and use the "Center across selection" horizontal format.

You touched on it a little, but you might want to consider reducing number of cell formats. People often go overboard on color usage for starters. Three to 4 different colors is usually sufficient.
