The same instances of excel workbooks

A while ago, I posted a question in regards to my functions from two different excel workbooks don't work, for example I can't use VLookUp between two excel workbooks. The workbooks are not talking to each other.

A team member replied that I need to use the same instances of excel workbook.

I tried to understand what the same instance of Excel workbooks mean, I couldn't.

Is there anybody to help me with this?

Does that mean that we have to open the workbook from one place?

Regards,

Starting with nothing else running (no programs in Start Bar), when you either open the first XL document, or run the Excel.exe program, this will create an instance of XL. Think of this like a shell. Within the instance, you can open more XL documents from either within the XL program itself, or finding the file somewhere and opening it. While in this shell, all the workbooks in the shell can easily talk to one another and copy/paste easily.

However, if you run the Excel.exe (Start - Programs - Office - Excel), the computer will create a new instance of XL. This can be handy if you want to split up calculations events, or numerous other reasons. However, workbooks within the 2 different shells can't talk to each other as easily. Does that help?

Its happen sometimes with me also. What i do than?

Copy and paste data to new book. Than close and reopen the excel book.

I hope than its work.

Hello Luke,

The concept of shell make it clear, but now I have to test it.

Thank you so much for the help.
