Hi, b(ut)ob(ut)hc!
Just passing by... and I read this... I guess it wasn't intended to mark me as a target...
The answer is simple:
a) We always had excellent performances in taekwondo (Vanina Sánchez Berón at Beijing 2008 even without medal), but they were not enough to reach the podium.
About Crismanich, see this article:

About gold of 2012 he defeated Vaughn (New Zeland), Bahawi (Afghanistan), Yereman (Armenia) and García Hemme (Spain). Would you like to tell me which of this countries has a strong taekwondo team? Because if they do, well, I think Argentine outperformed them by a great difference.
b) Rugby, we have a solid team, it's not the one of 2007 because of a generational change but we're in. This year invited to play with the big guys.
c) Football (soccer for Americans): many of the best players of the world but not one of the best teams in the world. Do you want to know my viewpoint about football and "our" heroes? Here it's a copy of a portion of a mail that I sent a week ago to a non-Argentine person:
"Legends, yes, but here our Argentine point of view:
a) Maradona, 70% consider him a national hero, they created a pseudo religion called "Maradonian Church", they refer him as "el Diego", or God, or the best ever football (soccer) player in the world.
I adhere to the 30% that consider him a shame, he's been raised in a very poor family who passed a lot of necessities, then faced with all the fame and glory and money and power that he wasn't able to handle, who was an excellent player but a few years (at age of 32, 1993 he was out yet, drugged the whole day), and who make the all country feel ashamed in USA '94 World Championship with the doping postive. A couple of years later, our then president, Carlos Menem, designed him Extraordinary Ambassador. Unbelievable, but true. And of course I consider Edson Arantes do Nascimento "Pelé" as the greatest.
b) Messi, he's Spanish more than Argentine (moved when 12), he's a magician, but playing at Barcelona, at our national team (selection) only this year he played three or four matches as he always does in his club, great part of us think that he doesn't feel the shirt, that he doesn't gives everything he's got inside, that his commitment with our selection is only partial and not fully, he doesn't leave his soul in the field. Personally I rather prefer him out of the team, but I'm a little radical about football. I'm not a fan, I like good football (European, English, Brazilian with their "jogo bonito" aka "nice playing"). Yeah I'm a basketball fan (NBA is the max!, fan of Chicago Bulls since 1991)."
c) Cricket... the only cricket we have here in Argentine is the one we use for changing a spare wheel.

Yeah, I know it's in Spanish, but I guess you can handle with images
d) Tennis... did you miss tennis? Del Potro, does it sounds a little? Bronze against Sir Roger.
e) Excel... Oh, isn't Olympic yet... Then you'd still have a chance.
Regards!
PS: Hui should take up the gauntlet of your last comment.
