Sumifs Date to Months

Hi guys,
I am trying to extract data using sumifs functions. All my data is based on dates and I want to extract data based on months. I have attached a sample file. Thanks for your help.

Excel won't guess ... what is w2_wages, begin_date, "1/&$C2" looks like text ...
I could wonder too ... why .. how should it work?
... and I had there formula-solution too.
