Split Time

I've attached an example. I entered the time (5:42)in B3 and tried to split the number into two cells. C3 should show "5" and D3 should show "42". Using the text to columns function, B3 changed to "0:00", C3 shows "42" and D3 shows "12:00 am".

C5 and C6 are the results I am trying to obtain.

Thanks!

What is Grah-Guido said, I gave that in the attached file...

I think you need to change the destination from $B$3 to $C$3, to obtain the correct result. If you want to omit "12:00 am" part then simply change the cell format from 'time' to 'custom' and choose "h:mm" option.
