Showing negative values in brackets while maintaining base formatting ($, %, etc)

Hello,

As the title suggests I'm trying to have my worksheet display all negative numbers in brackets while also maintaining their previous formatting but I don't know how.

My worksheet is mostly currency, however I have some % cells as well.

I've tried formatting the worksheet with #,##0;(#,##0) (which to me is gibberish), and it made negatives show up in brackets but I lose all of my dollar signs and %!

If this is only possible with a custom format to the % cells that is different from the $ cells, please include both so I can format each section (% and $) respectively.

Thanks and awaiting your reply.

Hi Andrew ,

You will have to make the cell format changes individually.

Suppose a range of cells , say C6:J25 , have the Currency format ; select these cells , click on Format , and then on Custom ; you will see the present Currency format , say something like $ #,##0

To have this format , as well as negative amounts in brackets , you need to extend the existing format as follows :

$ #,##0;($ #,##0)

What this will do is carry over the format for positive values to the negative values , but enclose the value itself in brackets instead of showing it with the minus sign -

The same will hold true for those cells which have the percentage format as the existing format.
