Show incremental values in excel chart

Srinivas

Hi,

I am building an excel chart using data from a pivot table, the data consists of list of managers, who has certain number of reportees under him/her both full time and contractor; and it is month wise count.

Say,

Srini has 10 full, 1 cont in Dec' 13 and the stacked bar shows a count of 11 (10 blue and 1 red colour). Now, if I add another person in Jan'14 ; the bar should show 12 (11 blue and 1 red).

However, it shows as 1 small blue bar. How can i make this incremental, rather than a whole value.

Thank you

Hi Srinivas....

Please see the attached file.... You have to select monthly filter to update the chart.

Regards!

Hi,
Thank you for the quick response, my mistake I have not attached the file. What I was looking for is a bit different here. If you look into sheet 4 (ignore the stack by mgr name, year - as I am using Mac2011 office it showing up like that). The stacks related to Dec & Jan under srinivas should show up as incremental value month on month, irrespective of whether I put the filter on month or not.

Can that be done? If there is problem with mac version I will send the windows one.

looks close, still didn't get the incremental stack as the way I wish to plot. I am attaching a sample chart that I have prepared using data options; which is again a manual effort. If I can get that using pivot directly that will be great. Like Under Srinivas - 2013 - Dec , 3 are there and if I added 2 more full time. Then, Jan should go 5 people on the graphs.

Hi, Now I managed to do it through Pivot; by adding another column to create incremental value (refer to sheet 3). But, it will be good to do directly though chart settings. I wonder if that is feasible.

You can use running totals feature in Pivot table to get this. You will have to re-adjust your source data. Have a column with complete date instead of month and year in separate columns. Then you can right click on the pivot table value field (addition) and choose "Show values as" and select running total in...

That was initially, how I have started with full date format mm/dd/yycc; this was the option that I didn't know and helped me. Alternatively, due to constraints I modified data to suit the chart format then automate it through pivot. Thank you for the response.
