search & replace in Excel 15.31 for Mac

I recently switched from Excel 8 to Excel 15.31. (Macintosh.) The little search bar in the upper right corner is practically useless. Once in a long time when I do cmd-f I get the older search window, which made it so easy to search by columns instead of rows, and do a find & replace--but usually I get put into that useless little search bar. Is there some way to make sure I get the older search window instead of that search bar?

Also I don't find the little thingy for splitting the screen, so I can scroll independently in two parts of the screen (either vertically or horizontally).

As this is a site for Excel on PCs help given may be very limited as most members will/may be unfamiliar with the OS of the Mac and the difference in software. You may get better help on a dedicated Mac site

Thank you bobhc. I didn't realize this site was PC-specific, and I will look into Mac sites. (But I'm still hoping someone here will also be familiar with it on a Mac!)
