Raw data vs Table?

which is better, keeping raw data in its original format or making it into a table and why?
I use these tables for crossreferencing to reports and metrics. Size of the file is also an issue.
 
Depends on what you mean by "making it into a table". If it's just using the Table/List feature built into Excel, I would say go with that. I've only started using XL 2007 in the last year, but am loving the referencing capabilities that come from the Tables, such as being able to reference columns/rows and not worry about data growth.
But that method is just formatting where the raw data is sitting. It shouldn't really affect file size that much. Might actually let you decrease it, depending on what formulas you are currently using to generate the reports and metrics.
