RANDBETWEEN ( ) with decimals and negative numbers

In column D, I am generating numbers between -12 and -4 with decimals. This is working fine.

Then in column G, I am trying -10 to -40 and all of a sudden I get an error. I'm doing everything the same, except I'm just using a different upper and lower limit.

What is causing this?

You are making a mistake is top and bottom reference. As this numbers are in -ve domain then -400 is smaller than -100. So the bottom reference should be -400 and top reference -100. Your code will be

=RANDBETWEEN(-400,-100)/10

instead of

=RANDBETWEEN(-100,-400)/10

-ve/Negative domain means number domain which is smaller than zero. In Positive/+ve domain 10 is greater than 4, but in case of -ve domain, -10 is smaller than -4. For better understanding, you can visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_number.
