I have a sheet in which coloum A contains short name of US states, B coloum contains Abbreviation of State name and C cloloum contains Name of Counties. Now I want to use vlookup formula in cell E2 to E30 for If i type first initial of county name i.e. C for Cook County D3 , I should get all counties stats with "c".

in the same sheet in cell E2 to E30. actually I want to make a sheet of all state and its counties. and want to get all counties in column E by ttyping First initial in Column D. for counties starts with C. and I want to do same with all state and its county by its first initial. I am sending sample file.

Please find the file attached with your requirement. Also want to let you know that I have kept flexibility in term of initial input , so instead of only one initial , you can enter a string of initials.

Please let me know if this is what you were looking for...

Its an array formula what I have used here .. so CSE is required. ...

Thank, but I want to make a excel sheet which includes all the US state and their Counties. I want that, If I type Shortname Of state In cell A2 and in cell C2 type first Initial Of county which I want to find, the Result should automatically appear all counties of That State and starts with that Initial in Cell D2 toD30. wow Thanks, that's I want. but how can i understand formula which is applied for this? Because How can I use this formula in future for this type of work in future?
