Protecting a range of cells AFTER content has been entered

I am doing some work with a healthcare facility and someone came up with an idea of creating an excel spreadsheet to put all the people a doctor is to see - and why the doctor is to see those people.

The issue we have is that the staff are not all very literate in it generally and excel specifically and there is the potential for a staff member to delete:

1. The whole file - it's on a server - so potentially retrieveable - but still somewhat troublesome.

2. Part of the file - and potentially something which has yet to be done.

These deletions would generally be unintentional - but nevertheless the possibility is there.

Is there some macro which could be run when closing the file - this would need to happen automatically on saving and closing the file - so that the information which has just been entered is protected?

I have put a copy of the file at http://bit.ly/drlisting

Thanks in advance for any assistance from this great and knowledgeable forum.

Good day jazzkid

Quote "the staff are not all very literate"...me thinks I will use another Doctor.

If you use the search box top right you will find a whole host of Chandoo posts on protection

There are certainly different tricks we could add to the file, but it's a trade-off for performance usually. Also, there is no way to make anything 100% fool proof. I think the better investment would be to better train the employees.

But knowing that that is not always a feasable option, here's a link to a similar request and solution:

Thanks all for the suggestions. I agree with most of the comments - including the fools comments and it is not allowed in any workplace I have been in either :)

Thanks Bobhc - it is not the doctors who use the forms - other than to know what they have to do. The doctors come and visit - so they are not the "not literate" ones. I did not phrase that well. It should have been "the staff are not IT literate and specifically with excel".

I will see how I get on with all the suggestions with the possible exception of killing them :)
