Hi Deepanshu

Forgetting - that will happen. Excel is like anything else you want to master, it takes practice which means using it regularly. I still forget things but the more I use Excel the less I forget. If you have a genuine interest in Excel that will really help your learning. In the early days I would make sure you use Excel every day. It will reinforce learnings. There are some fantastic resources on-line and any Google search will reveal thousands of resources. But the magic bullet as it were to learning Excel is persistence and practice.

Good luck on your journey.

Hi Deepanshu ,

The best way to keep in touch , in case your work does not involve using Excel regularly , is to join a public forum such as this , and start :

a. going through other people's problems , trying to understand them , and then trying to solve them with what ever knowledge you have.

b. going through other people's solutions to the above problems , to see how they have approached the problem ; not all problems are really Excel problems , though the solution may involve Excel formulae / VBA ; a lot of the time , solving a problem is a matter of using the right approach rather than having a profound mastery of Excel.

In addition to the above , the main aspect of your journey towards Excellence is that you allocate time to improving your knowledge of Excel every day , whether you feel inclined to do it or not.

Even half an hour is sufficient ; use this to :

a. Read at least one blog post a day ; there are any number of great Excellers who have their own blogs ; since you are not an advanced Excel user , you can always start with their archives , since these will deal with the simpler aspects of Excel.

2. Go through at least one Excel help topic a day ; in case you are a finance person , you can concentrate on the financial functions , if you deal in statistics , you can concentrate on the statistical and database functions ,...

3. Read at least a few pages of any good book on Excel ; a generally recommended book is Walkenbach's.
