I was trying to crack a workbook with loads of formulae..

I came across this

=vlookup($B$6,INDIRECT(""&A12&"!A$:D7"),4,FALSE)

Can anyone please help me out on the INDIRECT function and its usage here?

Hi Anitha ,

There must be a typo in the A$ part , since this is supposed to be a cell address ; can it be A4 , since the $ character is on the same key as 4 ?

A12 should contain the name of a valid sheet tab.

B6 should contain data which is present in column A in the sheet tab whose name appears in A12.

Try this :

=VLOOKUP($B$6,INDIRECT("'"&A12&"'!A4:D7"),4,FALSE)
