Hi Team,

Can any one explain me about percentile function , =percentile(array,k) in "MS EXCEL" or =percentile(data, alpha) .please explain both of them . why we use "k" or "alpha".

Copied from help file.

PERCENTILE:

Returns the k-th percentile of values in a range. You can use this function to establish a threshold of acceptance. For example, you can decide to examine candidates who score above the 90th percentile.

So, you could have a group of scores, and you want to first find what the 60th percentile is so you can grade on the curve. Formula would look like:

=PERCENTILE(A2:A100,0.6)

Now, I'm not sure where your other function which uses alpha came from, so I can't give a perfect answer. My guess is that it's just a different name/nomenclature for the same thing. Can you give an example of where it came from, or where it's used?

Hi Luke ,

Thanks for the reply . That was a best example i could able to understand the function. For your info i have found the above mentioned(=percentile(data, alpha)) function in drive.google.com . please follow this link :- https://support.google.com/drive/bin/static.py?hl=en&topic=25273&page=table.cs&tab=1240295.

Gotcha. There's a few functions that Google and Microsoft both use (and some unique) and so I stand by my earlier guess, that it's the same thing, just using a different name.
