Paste Link and Keep Formatting?

Hi!

Is it possible to paste a link from a separate excel workbook so that both the text and formatting link? I would like to create a master spreadsheet that pulls in pieces of information from multiple workbooks that are managed by other people. In theory the master spreadsheet should update when the other owners update their workbooks, but I cannot figure out how to keep any formatting changes as well.
