Hello there – I am fairly new to charting and excel and learning so much from this web site and forum

Here is what I am looking for and I haven’t been able to locate too much information on it…

I am starting a new “running” chart with data for the New Year – the items I am going to chart are missing inventory numbers and also the reason they are missing. So far for the month I have only 4 missing numbers, the problem is these numbers have many digits so any formula that I use Excel wants to add them together when I really just want to count the inventory numbers as one item.

I have also made a column with a number assigned to it with a corresponding code as to the reason why this number has shown up on this report.

How do I want to chart that for clarity and still impress? Also at any given time once a correction is made the current number of inventory numbers missing can decrease or increase depending if the reports that look for this data run correctly.

My example in a table:

[pre]
Code:
Inventory Number missing	Reason for Error
2522232252 1
5222538 5
3361282 1
224144 2
6524414 1
[/pre]
I also have a key to explain what each reason code is…. The next day I might have 3 more to add, or 3 to add and two to remove….. Am I looking for something I can’t do?

HELP

and thanks

Hi ,

I did not understand the following part of your post :

[pre]
Code:
the problem is these numbers have many digits so any formula that I use Excel wants to add them
together when I really just want to count the inventory numbers as one item
[/pre]
Can you please take an example from the data you have already posted , and explain what the problem is ?
