Hi I'm having problems calaculating the network days between the end of the year and next year.

This is what I have

27/12/2011 16/01/2012 =networkdays(27/12/2011,16/01/2012) and an error checking box appears with the number "0"

Please help..

Hi There

Try referencing cells holding the dates rather than inputting the dates directly into the formula - I get 15 when i do this.

hope that helps

Rob

If you have to put the dates directly into the networkdays function, use the Excel "Date" function.

Hi ,

Mike is right.

The Excel help gives the following :

NETWORKDAYS(start_date,end_date,holidays)

Important Dates should be entered by using the DATE function, or as results of other formulas or functions. For example, use DATE(2008,5,23) for the 23rd day of May, 2008. Problems can occur if dates are entered as text.

I'm not so sure about the use of quotations. This gives a "#VALUE!" error with my 2007 or 2010 versions. At a guess, Excel doesn't know whether you want days or months listed first.

Hi Mike ,

The text formats for the dates will work as long as the date formats and the text formats are identical , either mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy. If your computer has a date format of dd/mm/yyyy , and you specify the dates as "27/12/2011" , "16/1/2012" , it'll work.

If your computer has a date format of mm/dd/yyyy , and you specify the dates as "27/12/2011" , "16/1/2012" , it will not work. If you now change these text formats to "12/27/2011" , "1/16/2012" it'll work.

Using the DATE function will always work.
