Hi - How would I create a VLOOKUP that extracts data from columns (A,B,D,E,H and I) when I want to exclude data in column D where value = 1?

6/12/2012

A B C D E F G H I

Date Actvty Seq Phase Status Exp Strt Exp End Act strt Act End

6/11 Act 1 1 1 Success 23:00:00 23:30:00 23:30:03 23:25:20

6/12 Act 2 2 2 Success 00:00:00 00:05:00 00:03:10 00:03:14

6/12 Act 3 3 2 Success 00:05:00 00:10:00 12:04:01 12:04:05

6/12 Act 4 4 2 Success 14:30:00 14:35:00 14:30:01 14:30:04

Can this this be done via a VLOOKUP? Or is there some other function in Excel (VBA/Macros) that will help be get the desired extract?

Thanks for your help!

Azeem

is 6/12/2012 your lookup value? from your sample provided, 1 in column D will not be pulled.

you can also extract a lot of data using pivot table or filter. looks to me that you are asking for a filter?

Hi, azra1211!

First of all welcome to Chandoo's website Excel forums. Thank you for your joining us and glad to have you here.

As a starting point I'd recommend you to read the three first green sticky topics at this forums main page. There you'll find general guidelines about how this site and community operates (introducing yourself, posting files, netiquette rules, and so on).

Among them you're prompted to perform searches within this site before posting, because maybe your question had been answered yet.

And about your question...

Would you please specify which are the arguments to perform the search?

Regards!

Hi ,

You can do this without any formula.

Once your data is imported into Excel , use the Text to Columns facility to split the data into columns ; use the space character as a delimiter ( this will do for every column except for the Activity column ).

Once this is done , use the Auto Filter facility , and use a Custom Filter on column D , specifying does not equal 1.

You will be left with all data where column D <> 1.
