Linking workbooks and allowing the master sheet to be variable

Hi,

I have been trying to figure out how to link data from a master sheet that does not remain static, meaning that rows need to be added or subtracted at various times, and being able to link this data to other workbooks and have those rows added or subtracted when done in the master sheet. i am using excel 2008 for mac. i have read about hyperlinks, making queries, and using pic=vot tables but my understanding isn't enough o see how i can use them. do i need to download an driver to make queries? simply pasting a link does not work as it doesn't add a new row if added to the master. any help would be great, thanks

Hi, burntpig!

First of all welcome to Chandoo's website Excel forums. Thank you for your joining us and glad to have you here.

As a starting point I'd recommend you to read the three first green sticky topics at this forums main page. There you'll find general guidelines about how this site and community operates (introducing yourself, posting files, netiquette rules, and so on).

Among them you're prompted to perform searches within this site before posting, because maybe your question had been answered yet.

Feel free to play with different keywords so as to be led thru a wide variety of articles and posts, and if you don't find anything that solves your problem or guides you towards a solution, you'll always be welcome back here. Tell us what you've done, consider uploading a sample file as recommended, and somebody surely will read your post and help you.

And about your question...

I have never used an Excel 2008 Mac workbook, but if you still want to give a try consider uploading the sample files (source and target). Please refer to second green sticky post for guidelines.

Regards!
